State of the Blog: May

A somewhat productive month. Not so many story chapters done, but I got some background info on Ivthia and House Dythanus done (even with Blogger eating the Ivthia post for a short time). And at least Chapter 8 of Welcome To My Nightmare is finished and in the can.

I estimate there's about three more chapters are left in The Third Night. Possibly four, so I'm breaking the rule I had about each night being 9 chapters long. I already broke that long ago, though...Le Cirque d'Aberrations grew in the telling.

Since I want to get more out of this blog, I'm going to start sharing some other behind the scenes info on the writing process. Some of this will be world-building stuff...this world is a lot bigger than just The Tale of The Exile, thanks to the World of Aldora project that spawned this story in the first place. Sadly, Aldora itself is defunct, though there are plans to publish the Encyclopedia and a selection of stories from the old site, rescued by one of our former members. And, of course, some of us still keep in touch and brainstorm world ideas...it's just a lot harder to keep track of these days. I'm going to need to launch an Aldora wiki with the information I have, but that project is a long ways off.

For now, I'm just going to noodle on with The Tale of The Exile. Gaven's story is going to grow in the telling. Enjoy it with me.

w00t! I'm an Editor's Pick!

Wow. Aparently, putting my story up on TextNovel was a good move, because it's been picked as an Editor's Pick. Sweet!

Check out the Tale of The Exile on TextNovel. And vote for it, too, if you like!

New stuff on Obsidian Portal

I'm taking a bit of a break from Gaven's tale to figure out where I want to go from here. I have some other ideas that have been boiling up, so I've been posting stuff on my Campaign Wiki at Obsidian Portal (http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-rise-of-the-fallen) for my Rise of The Fallen campaign. Most of the new stuff has been focusing on the Empire of Avaleron, the villainous Eladrin kingdom that's caused about half the major problems (directly or indirectly) for the players. I've also created a page on Warlocks, including stuff about their various pacts and the organizations of the world that make use of them.

Random Musing

Just some random thoughts. I turned 28 on Sunday. My life is currently on a downward sort of spiral, which is depressing, though the bad times can't last forever. I have a new printer, which makes me eager to write again...the knowledge that I can actually get good ink cartridges that aren't at highway robbery prices is a boost to my creativity, especially my game stuff. With luck I'll get all this crap squared away and get functioning again. It's just been a tough time.

Writing in Starts and Fits

I've been writing only intermittently for a while, because last week I lost my job. While this gives me more time, it also give me more stress, which hasn't done me any favors. Especially since I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with the Third Night. This is a pain, because I know what I want to do for the Fourth and Fifth Nights, as well as the Seventh. But I can live with this. Mostly I need to get some feedback, so I'm looking to join with some critique groups to get my mind working. It should help revise the versions of the story I have going now.

I am about a third to a half of the way through the Third Night. Part of the problem I'm having is that I'm introducing more characters and more description into this bit. I'm not worried about that.

The part I'm worried about is that this section is going to turn into a drug trip, which I want to be able to write realistically AND comprehensibly without having to go the step of actually getting high.

So it's a challenge. But I'm committed to writing this thing.

The Second night of Gaven Morren now available on PDF!

The Second Night of The Tale of Gaven Morren is now available on PDF at Rapidshare.com. I'm working on getting the First Night available as well, but for now enjoy the collection of the Second Night in all it's glory.

It's my goal to improve these PDFs as I go back and edit the story, and I would love to have some feedback, so if you've got some comments on things you liked or what could be improved, feel free to pass them along!
